About Me

I’m a dad to three great kids. Life moves fast between work, companies, and projects, but spending time with them is what matters most. I consider myself an Investor, Entrepreneur, Software Engineer, and Connoisseur of All Things Awesome.

I’ve spent more than 18 years building software, companies, and systems across startups and larger organizations. Over that time, I’ve worked on everything from large-scale data and automation to machine learning and AI.

These days, a lot of my attention is on AI and large language models. Not just what they can do now, but what they change. I think they’re going to fundamentally reshape how software is built, how companies operate, and how people interact with technology. For developers in particular, they can be an enormous force multiplier.

I’m currently the Founder and CEO of Lightsmith Energy, where we’re building at the intersection of energy, software, AI, and distributed compute. I’m also a Managing Partner at Focused Capital, which I co-founded after selling my software consulting company in 2022.

I created this blog to document the things I’m working on, including projects like my JARVIS-inspired AI assistant, but also because I like building things and figuring out how they work. It gives me a place to experiment, keep my skills sharp, and write about whatever I happen to be working on or thinking about at the time.

A lot of that is AI right now, but not all of it. Software, hardware, automation, energy, infrastructure, and random projects all tend to make their way in here eventually.
